Spring Quarter Begins

After brothers traveled to Cabo, Cuba, and Hawaii among other less excotic spring break destinations they returned to participate in one of the year’s most popular philanthropy events – Dance Marathon. Under the direction of Philanthropy Chair William Zegras and Matt Esguerra the chapter coordinated donations with the Delta Gamma sorority to raise $1,549 to support the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Brothers Benji Kamara and Marty Hockey joined fellow Bruins April 6-7 as they accepted the challenge of staying standing for 26 continuous hours, literally taking a stand in the fight against Pediatric HIV/AIDS. A special shout out goes out to brother Jack Barrera who led all fundraisers pulling in nearly $700.

Currently, Spring Quarter is underway as former EC Peter Slaats recently pinned his Delta Gamma girlfriend and for the 3rd consecutive year, the chapter was visited by Dr. Timothy Fong for a well received discussion about marijuana that informed the brothers of the potential risks of abuse. Of greatest interest was a discussion on the changing frontier of the marijuana industry and the research being done on the drug.

As alumni we can continue to be proud of the current state of UCLA’s Sigma Nu house and confident that every dollar donated is having a positive impact in the lives of our future alumni.
