601 Gayley Avenue
Preserving a Westwood landmark for the next generation
The Epsilon Pi Chapter of Sigma Nu first moved into its iconic home at 601 Gayley Avenue in 1940. The house has undergone two major expansions since then.
The first expansion, in 1954, added the “New Wing” — a second-story addition above the kitchen and dining areas. The second occurred in 1965, with the construction of the ground-level addition along Strathmore Avenue, known as “The Hole.”
In the summer of 2018, the “New Wing” was completely gutted and rebuilt, creating seven newly configured bedrooms, a modern bathroom, and upgraded laundry appliances. Each room was equipped with individual air conditioning units, closets, drawers, beds, and mattresses.
The following summer, in 2019, the “Old Wing” underwent a similar transformation, resulting in eight new bedrooms and updated bathroom and laundry facilities.
In 2024, a new steel sundeck was completed, replacing the wooden structure built in 1985 and connecting both wings above the courtyard. Underneath a portion of this structure, a new kitchenette was also installed.
While many other UCLA fraternities have chosen to demolish and rebuild, our Alumni Board takes pride in preserving the iconic exterior of 601 Gayley Avenue. Since 2016, over 300 brothers have donated, with gifts ranging from $50 to $2,000,000.
As we approach our Centennial in 2030, we encourage all alumni to help “burn the debt” and secure our chapter’s future.
