This November, retired US Navy Captain Jerry Coffee (EP 468) will return to UCLA for the first time in over 20 years. One of longest held Vietnam prisoners of war and now a highly-respected military commentator, Captain Coffee is excited for the opportunity to meet the current crop of Epsilon Pi Sigma Nu brothers and tour the fraternity house’s recent New Wing Hall renovation.
In an exclusive opportunity to Sigma Nu brothers and alumni, Captain Coffee will participate in the inaugural Sigma Nu Honor and Scholarship Dinner to share a moving account of his incredible experience from capture to ultimate release. His faith – in himself, others, his country, and his God – was the key to turning an unbelievably difficult, potentially devastating experience into an opportunity for personal growth. Our fraternity Brother is an inspiring example of the power of the human spirit to survive and triumph over the most adverse circumstances. His story conveys a positive message that we each have the potential to survive any ordeal, overcome any obstacle, achieve any goal. After hearing him, Brothers in attendance will look at their challenges and adversities in a totally different way.
The inaugural Sigma Nu Honors event will be held on Friday, November 16th beginning at 6pm with a tour of the newly renovated New Wing hall before a formal dinner. The dinner will introduce the fall and winter quarter scholarship award winners and provide depth about the character of the Brothers currently residing at 601 Gayley Ave. To attend this impactful event we ask that alumni guests make a minimum donation of $150 and that they invite their significant others to join as well for $100. Money raised beyond the event’s expenses will go into the Sigma Nu Scholarship Fund.
Through the generous donations of Sigma Nu alumni and fruitful investment strategies of the Sigma Nu Scholarship Fund Board of Directors, we enter October with nearly $1.3 million in the Sigma Nu Scholarship Fund. A result that will produce $50,000 in scholarship grants to be awarded throughout the 2018-19 academic year.
Additional information about the event, the scholarship recipients themselves and the scholarship fund’s performance will appear in this newsletter in the coming weeks and months. But we advise that this event will sell out so please save the date and email your RSVP HERE to reserve your seat.
