IFC bans alcohol over 15% ABV

Hard alcohol is now banned at UCLA Interfraternity Council-member fraternities.

On October 2nd, the Interfraternity Council voted to ban all drinks over 15 percent alcohol by volume at in-house fraternity events. In-house fraternity events are classified as parties that are open to the general student population.

There are currently 22 IFC-member fraternities at UCLA and the ban, which was supported by our own Sigma Nu EC, was passed with near unanimity.

In September, the North-American Interfraternity Conference also voted to ban hard alcohol over 15 percent ABV at in-house events. While that ban would have impacted only fraternities that are members of the NIC, the IFC’s October vote guarantees the council will enforce the ban at UCLA’s member fraternities.
